Adapt or die: better known as “Survival of the Fittest” has been at the heart of Darwinian wisdom and philosophy how life evolved on earth. This evolved the mammals from an amoeba and the human from our close cousins- gorilla. BUT, how does it feel when we expect robots to soon join this race and we will need to compete with them for survival.

Even though robots are not going to eat our food or outpace us during our run from predators, atleast not of yet- they are surely coming for our jobs. And though many would not want to admit, it is a sad part of life- that for many- their jobs are their means of survival. Maybe not as a species but surely as a family unit. Retail giant Walmart has just filed for a patent for Autonomous Robot Bees! It seems like soon we could be having these robotic bees pollinating our crops. This is supposed to help address the dire situation of declining bee-population due to a phenomenon called colony collapse. Declining bee population has been of major concern, since bees pollinate nearly one-third of the food we eat. So, this may assure good crop pollination, but can robotic bees truly address nature's way of working.

It is always wonderful to read about innovation in technology. but, the philosophical question remains, we have yet to completely define and live by our humanity, how will we incorporate "living technology" in our life!!

2/24/2018

Mobile World Technology Congress 2018 (MWC 2018) saw a smart phone that could "smell" obnoxious odors! The applicability of this functionality is limitless. Phones have been keeping us safe and saving our lives for many years now by dialing the emergency 911 with a mere touch of a button or some code button-combinations (which comes in handy when in threatening scenarios).

But if our phones start smelling and detecting odors around us, then they could be programmed to detect if seemingly ordinary smells are containing dangerious levels of toxic chemicals. Hopefully in the near future, a warning from our smart phone could be protect us from toxic concentrations of household VOCs (Volatile Organic Chemicals) such as those found in paints, cleaners and so on...
